I was going to make a thread about it at the time, but I wasn't able to do it without excoriating Blatter. What a jerkoff he is. Of course it was a mistake. What vision! I'll just leave it at that.

If they do move it, it will probably go to a country that needs little infrastructure to be built.

We are talking about 2022, which is still 8 years away. The later they delay giving it to another country I think that will be the case. When they moved the 2003 WWC at the last minute, it had be the case.

I'd love for the US to host again. I didn't think too much of when they hosted in 1994.

Qatar World Cup 2022 investigation: former Fifa vice-president Jack Warner and family paid millions

Jack Warner, the former vice-president of Fifa, appears to have been personally paid $1.2 million (£720,000) from a company controlled by a former Qatari football official shortly after the decision to award the country the tournament.

Payments totalling almost $750,000 (£450,000) were made to Mr Warner’s sons, documents show. A further $400,000 (£240,000) was paid to one of his employees.

It is understood that the FBI is now investigating Trinidad-based Mr Warner and his alleged links to the Qatari bid, and that the former Fifa official’s eldest son, who lives in Miami, has been helping the inquiry as a co-operating witness.

The Organizers Of The Qatar World Cup Are Very Mad At Us

After reading that...you have to wonder how much that guy gets paid. It has to be a LOT to completely sell your soul like that.

They're allowed to just do that?

Is there any precedent for canceling on a country?

Every time I click on this thread I either expect a new article about something going wrong in their plans or a FIFA announcement saying they're moving the 2022 Cup elsewhere.

We better not bail FIFA out. I mean hosting again would be cool. It will be cool. But make them go through with this clusterfuck.

When it comes to the 2022 World Cup, I don't think anything would please me more.

So, press on even in the face of massive worker deaths and atrocious conditions? Yeah, sounds cool.

I have no problem with the US hosting the event, with FIFA footing the bill. FIFA shouldn't get away free and clear on this, absolutely not. There are certain other countries that might be good for it as well.

This is an unmitigated disaster.

Is Brazil even ready yet?

It doesn't need to be moved on the calendar. It needs to be moved on the map. If (proper) hosts can get Olympics together in seven years, a proper host can conjure up a World Cup in eight.
