UMTerps: Moore Named to Rimington Trophy Spring Watch List

Moore, who has been named on the watch list for the third consecutive year, is one of just five centers from the Big Ten on this year’s list.

Moore, who has started 26 consecutive games at center for Maryland, helped the Terps rushing attack eclipse 160 yards per game for the third consecutive season in 2017. It marks the longest such streak for the program since 2001-03.

UMTerps: Jacobs, Johnson Named to Preseason Watch Lists

University of Maryland running back and kick returner Ty Johnson and wide receiver Taivon Jacobs were recognized on preseason watch lists Thursday morning.

Johnson was named to the 2018 Paul Hornung Award Watch List, while Jacobs was placed on the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List.

The Hornung Award, now in its ninth season, is given annually to the most versatile player in major college football by the Louisville Sports Commission and football legend Paul Hornung. Johnson is one 43 total players selected, including just five from the Big Ten.

The Wuerffel Trophy is known as "College Football's Premier Award for Community Service." Named after 1996 Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Danny Wuerffel, the Wuerffel Trophy is awarded to the FBS player that best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.

Jacobs, who is Maryland's top returning wide receiver, is heavily involved in the Terps community service efforts. He has spent time volunteering at the National Institute of Health and mentoring elementary school kids at J.C. Nalle's afterschool program.

IMS: Linebacker Leaves Maryland Football Program

Brett Shepherd is no longer listed on Maryland’s official roster and a school spokesman confirmed to IMS Tuesday that the 6-foot-4, 230 pound linebacker has left the program.

A former three-star recruit out of Georgia, Shepherd was one of 17 true freshmen to play for Terps coach DJ Durkin during his first season in College Park. He saw playing time again in 2017, but only played 20 defensive snaps. As the only non-senior middle linebacker on last year’s depth chart, he had a chance to replace Jermaine Carter in the starting lineup this season until Maryland signed Illinois graduate transfer Tre Watson last December. He was competing for one of the other vacant linebacker spots in the spring with returning starter Isaiah Davis, redshirt junior Nick Underwood and highly-touted redshirt freshman Ayinde Eley.

There's a lot to like about the talent DJ Durkin has brought to @TerpsFootball. Just ask @gerrydinardo. "This is a talented, talented roster."

Not going to be enough to get past that ESPN article though.

Canada not saying much, as expected. Says the culture right now is very good, players excited to get to work. Says he's talked to Durkin to offer support but doesn't say much else.

Courtesy of WMUC Sports on Twitter, this is one of Maryland's two new "cooling stations" on their outdoor practice fields.
