I broke down some lower-tier players who make sense for the O's this offseason.

Check it out.

Thanks Brandon.

Thoughts on the suggested RF options vs. just handing the '18 job to Hays?

I'm all in on going after CarGo. He'd be a legit comeback player of the year candidate if he came here.

Agree.  I don't think his wRC+ tells the whole story. Big buy-low potential.

Dyson, Jay, and CarGo all have some good fits for the O's. In fact I wish we could dump Trumbo, move Mancini to first base, and sign two of those three.

You mean DH for Mancini?  Davis is a superior defensive 1B to Trey, IMO.

I agree that finding someone to take on a good chunk of Trumbo's contract, moving Mancini to DH, and then filling a corner OF spot with a bat we're optimistic about would be a good idea.

Mancini looked like poop at first imo.

It was, often, a footwork problem.  That can be improved upon, but IMO, it would be hard for him to approach CD's level of defense.  I think he was decent in left field.  He got better as the year went on.

Davis's defense continues to decline.

I thought he was excellent defensively this season.  I've felt he has bad hands for a long time, but he was really good in that regard this season.  And he's always had the range.

Nobody was more enthusiastic about Davis' defense than Buck.  It wasn't just Manager speak, he went out of his way to mention it numerous times.

I'm just looking at defensive War from baseball reference but it also felt to me like it slipped a bit. And I've never loved his pure fielding.

His fielding is fine. It’s not as good as Buck makes it out to be but it’s certainly good enough.

Yeah I didn't mean to put first in place of Davis. DH is where he'd go. I am fine with him in LF though. He was plenty adequate. The real point I was trying to make (and failed) was that two of those three, at their expected costs, would be much more valuable on the O's than Trumbo would.

From his last interview "looking for older veterans" it appears that we can expect nothing more than dumpster diving. Angelos is among the worst owners in professional sports.the mere fact that he'd left Buck, and Duquette run out the contracts of Machado, Britton, Brach, and AJ is criminal and will cost the team dearly long term.

Benefit to Duquette if he Dan somehow eeks together a fringe wild card contender that he can sell as being handcuffed by ownership.
