1-Oklahoma - Owners of the best win in the country. Have to be No. 1

2-Alabama - Probably the best team in the country, but doesn't have resume (yet) for the one slot

3-Clemson - Good win at home against a really strong defense. Definitely looking like the ACC frontrunner

4-USC - Yuge win over Stanford. The hype train is real!

5-Michigan - I like their wins over Cincy and Florida more than Penn State's over Akron and Pitt

6-Penn State - Looking impressive. Took care of Pitt with ease

7-Washington - Ok, maybe Rutgers is a pile of garbage after all

8 - Oklahoma State - Probably the only team that can challenge Oklahoma in the Big 12. Hope it stays that way. Nothing better than Bedlam deciding the conference

9 - Wisconsin

10 - Georgia - Not sure how good Notre Dame is, but a solid road win nonetheless

11 - LSU

12 - Louisville - Lamar Jackson is a beast. Six touchdowns on the day. That is all.

I liked TCU's win at Arkansas. They'd be in my HR range.

I guess I hadn't paid enough attention to USC's schedule. Only ranked games left on the schedule are @Washington State, and home vs. UCLA.  Now there are a number of other teams on the schedule who could bite them, but they are in really good shape after beating Stanford.

Oregon also interests me. Letting Nebraska getting back into the game after leading 42-14 wasn't good, but the offense looks formidable again. They've got 4 ranked opponents left on their schedule, and 3 of those games are on the road. So if they contend for the Pac 12 North title, they will have earned it.

Mike, don't include this... but I guess my rankings would be:

1. Alabama
2. Clemson

3. Oklahoma

4. USC
5. Penn State
6. LSU

7. Michigan
8. Washington
9. Wisconsin

10. Oklahoma State
11. Ohio State

12. Florida State

HR: TCU, Georgia, Louisville, Oregon, VaTech

  2. Oklahoma
  3. Penn State
  4. Clemson
  5. Southern California
  6. Ohio State
  7. Oklahoma St
  8. Washington
  9. LSU
  10. Wisconsin
  11. Florida St
  12. Michigan

I agree with CT's point about Oklahoma having the best win so far, but I still don't think they're better than Alabama-wouldn't mind being wrong.  I tried not to punish Ohio State too much for losing-I still see them cruising into their big game with Penn State the end of October, I have LSU and Michigan higher than I think they will wind up, but hard to put any over them yet.  I dropped Florida State because I had sent in my rankings last week before I heard their QB was out for the year.

Hmmm thought we'd see more UGA love. Winning at ND isn't easy. Even if the Irish aren't terrific.

Was a nice win. They had a lot of the crowd there...was impressed with that.  2 good backs.   On 9/30 they trip to Tennessee, that's a huge game in the SEC East.  Another is end of October when they get Florida at home.

The UF game is actually neutral field in Jacksonville. Cocktail party. :-)

Ahh right right.   Doesn't FL typically have some like 2/3rds of the crowd?

I'm surprised neither team wants to stop having it in Jax, and get the home gate.

I guess it depends on how you look at it. I was going to call this the Week 2 rankings since they are based off the Week 2 results. But I prefer to do things democratically, so weigh-in, everyone.

It's typically a 50-50 split, just like the Red River Rivalry, even though it's always played in Dallas. They used to do neutral site every year for the Iron Bowl too, until the stadium in Birmingham became too decrepit.

Just whatever makes most sense -- I (and they) called the first weekend "Week 0" and sorta incorporated it into Week 1 which was last week.

Remember when Ohio State was better than Alabama

Never said that - That's why I was asking for guidance about the methodology of polling. I just thought that had Ohio State gotten by Oklahoma, they would've run the table and been in the playoffs as the #1 seed. All that out the window now. Although, they'll probably still beat Michigan to make things interesting. But Penn State might just score enough to beat them. To be clear, I hate Ohio State.... but I hate Alabama more and their road was tougher.

If OSU wins out, they will be in the playoff.

All Saturday did was give them less margin for error and effect their ranking should they make the playoff.

What will be interesting is if OSU wins out, OU loses to Ok St and doesn't play for Big 12 title...do you give spot to OSU, who wins their conference or give it to the team that beat them heads up?

Chances are, OSU gets in over them.

I leave it to each of you to use your own standards for ranking teams. But feel free to elaborate in the threads on what your basis was, or be ready to get questioned if you go against the grain.
