UEFA Champions League 2017-18

I'll get an article up before the group stage matches happen. But for now suffice it to say the Group H is the Group of Death. Real Madrid, Dortmund, and Tottehnham. Yikes something is going to break in that group.

Spurs won't advance unless they make a move before the transfer window is over. Dortmund beat them up last year.

Today's big match is certainly Barcelona and Jeventus. Roma v Atletico should also be a good one. I'll be watching (mostly) the Man U match v FC Basel.
Tomorrow the group of death plays with Liverpool hosting Sevilla and Tottenham hosting Dortmund, the later being a must see match.
For those who like to follow all the action live Fox Sports Plus is carrying Mutlimatch 90 which will is pretty much like the NFL Fantasy channel. All the big plays in near real time.

If you read my preview you saw my main point on the group stage is that the top clubs ($$$) just are too deep and talented for the smaller clubs to realistically make much noise.
Case in point in the Man u - Basel match. In the 18th minute Pogba has to go off for Man U with an apparent hamstring pull. So they sub in Fellaini. Not maybe the player he once was but still a midfielder who would start for 95% of the club teams in the world.
In the 35th minute Man U goes up 1-0. On a header. You can already guess who scored. Yup, it was Fellaini.

For whatever reason, the only feed ESPN is giving me for Spurs is en espanol. Kinda cool. COYS

ESPN doesn't have UCL its on the FOX channels. And the Spurs did what they needed to do today. 3-1 over Dortmund. Dortmund totally dominated the first 3/4 of the game but Tottenham didn't break. Dortmund kept pushing up to try and equalize but all that did was give the Spurs several chances on counters and they finally did put one in a third goal.

Big match for tomorrow with Dortmund and Real Madrid. See if Dortmund can climb out of the early hole they dug losing to Tottenham. Note that Dortmund is at the top of the Bundelsiga table!

These UCL matches are tough for a number of reasons beyond the obvious that its pitting two world class clubs. There is no rest for the weary here. Dortmund just played on Sunday so have barely 48 hours turnaround. That is just dang hard to do at this level. Normally teams start different players (which is why depth is so important to UCL level clubs) but with injuries, especially in Dortmund's case they just are likely going to play mostly their starters from Sunday.
This is MUST watch tv for soccer fans.

Well Real Madrid has put Dortmund in a pretty big hole. No wonder I figured this was the group of death. The first Real goal by Bale was insane.

APOEL is no slouch either. They deserved a better result than 3-0. I'm glad Spurs at 6 points clear at this point because they are going to need it.
