Florida suspends starting running back for Michigan game

The Gators now have 10 players suspended for this game, including their starting running back and their best receiver.  This in no longer much of a quality win opportunity and becomes a must win.  Most of the issues at Florida are connected to players selling items they charged on their student accounts for cash.

The system shouldn't be set-up where players feel the need to do this; but it is incredibly stupid. Just ridiculous really. Going to cost them a win, in all likelihood. (It may not)

An interesting batch of BIG articles from Awful Announcing, one of the best (probably the best) sports media site you don't have to pay for.

ESPN Analyst Ed Cunningham steps away from announcing football

Cites CTE concerns, doesn't feel he can be a "cheerleader" anymore.

ESPN, SirusXM radio team up for more college sports radio

This in addition to SiruxXM's already strong college sports coverage.  Good way to avoid (mostly) politics these days

ESPN College Game Day crew picks up "family member" Lee Corso when he needs it

ESPN is usually a pretty easy target, but here's something they are doing right.

Then again....

Nebraska asks ESPN to stop airing "Children of the Corn" ads

Apparently they're uncomfortable being compared to a cult from a Stephen King novel.  Don't blame them.

I had a chance to appear on the podcast "Sights on Saturday" to talk about the upcoming Big 10 football season.. I shared who I thought would be the most surprising and disappointing teams, and other thoughts looking ahead to kickoff.  You can listen to it here.

Indiana is bitching them

ESPN: Greg Schiano calls current Ohio St. D-line most talented he's coached

Schiano says the Buckeyes Dline is more talented than the Bucs in '12-'13...

Rob... yep.

Buckeyes score their first TD.

Very impressed with Indiana's offensive tempo and passing game. Also impressed with JK Dobbins. Buckeyes' passing game looks all too familiar in the 1st half.

That's a tough call for intentional grounding there. He obviously got hit in the middle of attempting a forward pass. Could be significant if OSU get good enough field position to attempt a FG before the half.

Well, Indiana does have -2 yards rushing on 22 carries.

Figure the OSU secondary isn't as strong since they lost 3 first rounders.

I get it, as a MD fan, that Texas getting all the attention is annoying, even after they lost. But they were obviously the marquee program going into that game, and no result was going to change that. Plus, when you go as long as MD had without beating a ranked team, the natural response from most will be that so-and-so had a really bad day or was way overrated (since it was the very beginning of the season, after all). That's just how it works in sports.

Unfortunately for the Terps their next chance to really make the country sit up and take notice isn't until Oct 7, when they travel to Columbus, OH. I think it's going to be a tall order for them to keep that game tight until the final gun. But if they can, and assuming they won the three winnable games in between, then I think you will start to see perceptions change.

Week 3: There's some games I like that week. The two big ones being Clemson @ Louisville and Miami @ FSU (minus Francois at QB). File a note in the back of your mind for Army @ Ohio St, especially if the Buckeyes beat OK. The Black Knights won't win, but I could see them putting a good scare into OSU coming off a huge game. There's also the meeting between two brandname programs that had rough starts yesterday, Texas @ USC.

Four BIG schools in the Top Ten this week! Could the BIG be laying a claim to the best football conference this season? Looks like it to me early on-emphasis on early.

While only a couple of them could be considered truly quality wins, the B1G did very well outside the conference last weekend.

OSU-Okla this weekend is obviously huge, for multiple reasons. One of my under-the-radar games that could influence conference perception is Nebraska @ Oregon. Neither is a realistic conference title contender, but both should be quality teams that will reflect the competitive depth of their respective conference.

Agreed Mike, and I'm doubtful Nebraska's defense is up for the challenge. Should be a shootout. The days of the Blackshirts defense seems like a long time ago.
