Didn't realize how big the field was. Looks like 156 guys will start.
British Open and US Open had the exact same number. Masters is smaller, with just 93 this year.
Wikipedia has all the details of how each of the tournaments select the field, and which criteria each player met to get in. Pretty interesting, to me at least.

Talked to two caddies and a player about round 1 at the PGA Championship. Caddie 1, "If you get in the rough, good luck to ya. There's no way to know how the ball is gonna come out." Caddie 2, "You have to stay below the hole, but the hole locations made that impossible." Player, "These greens were every bit as fast as Augusta if not faster."

ESPN: Jordan Spieth: PGA Championship setup 'toughest for me'
Jason Day made an absolute mess of the final hole at the PGA Championship today. Playing in the final group and very much in contention, Day hit his tee shot into the trees on the right, then tried to hook a shot to the right, down a cart path. It didn't work. A drop and a chip and another chip and (yes) another chip and a few putts later, the end result was a quadruple-bogey 8 and a 6-over 77, leaving him seven strokes off the lead entering Sunday.

Matsuyama is one of the great golfers that hasn't won a major yet. Like to see him get his Sunday.
